Ben Okri new Caine Prize vice president

The Caine Prize for African Writing has announced the appointment of Ben Okri as its new vice president.

Okri is one of the continent's most distinguished writers and poets and was awarded the Man Booker prize for his classic The Famished Road in 1991. He has been associated with the prize for 13 years.

Ellah Allfrey, deputy editor of Granta, will also become deputy chair of the prize.

The Caine Prize is one of Africa’s leading literary awards and will announce its 2012 shortlist on the 1st of May, 2012.
