Happy Independence Day!

As we all know, Nigeria celebrates its 51st birthday today on October 1st. As always, it’s a time to look back and look ahead. Sarah Ladipo Manyika’s classic love story, In Dependence is an absorbing way to reminisce. In her novel, a Nigerian man, Tayo, falls in love with Vanessa, a British woman, while Tayo studies in England. The story charts their lives across time and distance. One of the vital aspects of the book is the music that is the backdrop to the changing times – the heady days of the 1960s and 1970s. Below, we’ve dug out some of the music and musicians that are referenced. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did in searching for them. Happy Independence Day!
