The Lagos Book and Art Festival is one of the biggest celebrations of books and literature on the continent. Hosted by the Committee for Relevant Art (CORA), the festival is scheduled to run from Friday, November 18 to 20, 2011, at the Freedom Park on Broad Street.
According to organisers, the theme of this year's festival is: "I Vote To Read: The Book and The Voice of The People." Several events and workshops will be dedicated to exploring the relationship between literacy, politics and leadership.
“Through this theme, we hope to address the role of literacy in developing an informed electorate which in turn contributes to the nation-building process,” said Ayo Arigbabu, project director of the festival.
From panel sessions featuring readings, reviews, and discussions, to an art exhibition, and drama skits, there will be something for everyone. Don't miss the musical interludes and the big Festival Party headlined by Fatai Rolling Dollar.
This year's fair will also celebrate children's literature - a nod to this year's selected category for the NLNG Nigeria Prize for Literature. Kids can attend writing and art workshops and even boogie down at a special child-friendly party to close out the celebrations.
Attendance is open to the public, so bring the family!
